My Apology to Dove: What Happens When Black Twitter Reacts too Quickly

What happens when Black Twitter reacts too quickly? Here is my apology to Dove, for their recent advertisement that received a lot of backlash. Black Twitter, and the rest of the internet is always quick to jump to the defense on something that appears to be racist. Thanks to the internet, we have the voices and the spaces to feel free enough to let our grievances be known. We are able to let advertisers know when racism and lack of diversity will not be tolerated. What happens though, when we are so conditioned to react negatively, to something that is not actually negative? Do we feel bad? Do we apologize? I for one, feel the need to.

5 Tips to Turn Your Day Around: A Guide in Gifs

I am NOT a morning person! Just ask anyone who has ever lived with me, or worked with me, or is friends with me. Basically, just ask anyone. I am not a morning person. I think that is the main reason why I do not wear makeup to work. It is time consuming. I am not ashamed to admit that I wake up in just enough time to wash up, put on neat clothes, and make sure my hair looks semi-decent. The makeup tho? Nah… Because I am not a morning person, any little thing in the morning will set me off, and basically determine the rest of my day. Like, just don’t even talk to me before 11 AM. Therefore, it is very easy for me to have a bad, or not-so-good, day. I have been working on becoming a better morning person-a nicer person, even. That’s what you have to do when you have a full-time job. The tips that I follow to turn my day around have helped me tremendously. So, I’m here to share the wealth. 7/7/17: The Bible Verse I Did Not Know I Needed

What happens when you have this crazy random thought to Google something? Do you find what you are looking for? This morning, I decided to Google today’s date: 7/7/17. I was not looking for anything in particular. Maybe today was a “National Day Of…” that I could celebrate. You know I’m a sucker for pretend holidays. Anyway, I remember on this day back in 2007 (7/7/7), we were told that it was the luckiest day ever. I guess I thought that because today was 7/7/17, that it was also a lucky day, a perfect day even. Although I did not know what I was looking for when I Googled the date, I found exactly what I needed to find.

My First Post-Grad Summer – 5 Things We All Need to Know

I saw the funniest meme yesterday that perfectly describes my first post-grad summer! It says, “When you get a job right out of college and you gotta do adult stuff but you’re still a kid inside” with a picture of a baby dressed in a mini power suit, sitting in a little office. IF THAT ISN’T ME,Y’ALL! I feel like a baby every single day when it involves waking up early in the morning, getting myself dressed, and getting my OWN baby together for the day. Is this real life? I really pay a car note now? And my phone bill? And soon, RENT?! Out of my own paycheck?! Not to mention being responsible for keeping a little human alive. Don’t even let me start on the chunk that comes out of each paycheck for insurance.

National Best Friend Day: 10 Reasons to Thank Your Best Friend

It’s National Best Friend Day! If you know me, then you know that I am a sucker for “National Days.”  It gives me the perfect excuse to celebrate silly, cool, or important things. For instance, getting donuts on National Donut Day, or buying my dogs treats for National Pet Day. I also petition for “National Put Money in Your Daughters Account Day.” *Hint* *Hint*, Mom. In honor of National Best Friend Day, I am dedicating this article to the best friends in my life.
With the hustle and bustle going on in our lives, we might not get the opportunity to tell our best friends “thank you.”  We might not get the opportunity to see them often, and we may even have to miss out on important events going on in each other’s lives. However, when the time comes, my friends are right there. I’m not talking about just the friends I have now or the friends I had in college or high school, but my DAY 1’s. Literally, and figuratively. I am the girl that can make friends very easily. But, I am also the girl that is extremely selective with who I consider a friend, and who I choose to share my personal life with.
